NHS X GSA Project - National Health Spaces Initiative

NHSi Project Process Journal - https://issuu.com/tamobrien/docs/nhs_project_ppj_-_thomas_o_brien

This project took place in my third year of university, a group project completed fully online in collaboration with the NHS, specifically NHS Ayrshire & Arran and NHS 24. We also conducted interviews with individuals from Centrestage, South Lanarkshire Social Work & the National Institute for Integrative Medicine in Bristol.

In this project we looked at the design of Healthcare Services, through the lens of the future of Blended Healthcare, adopting a research led and collaborative approach with people from different areas of the healthcare sector.

We aimed to create proposals for Future Healthcare Services that will inspire the project partners and participants, and potentially support innovation in the sector.

The class was split into 3 different themes for this project, my groups theme was The Future of Holistic and Preventative Care.

Originally being a group of 10 we then split into 2 groups of 5 to explore different areas where our team focussed on Space and Environment.

As well as developing a proposal for a new service, the design task should also involve creating a package of digital communication tools that enable the partner participants to easily and effectively share the project findings and outcomes within their organisations.

Our teams final outcome for this project was a community based healthcare pilot that uses a wearable device to track people’s symptoms in order to help prevent them from becoming unwell and supports them with placed based person-centred care at local hubs.

Our final outcomes for the project.

The Prevention Pack – a pack that is sent to each person in the community weekly including a pill for each day, this is where our preventative aspect comes into play as this
pill will prevent those from catching illness. This pack also includes a concertina telling the user what they can and cannot do in the coming week, and the activities that are on in their local area.

The Device – At the beginning of this pilot scheme,
a device pack will be sent out to each person in the community to wear to track some of their health (like steps, blood pressure etc)

Adverts – These include newspaper articles, social media, email and posters around different places of the city, on buses, bus stops and billboards etc.

User Service Map
Each resident will recieve an NHSi device pack in the post, this pack includes:
- A physical device tracker that attaches to the users arm
- Data was tracked unless a user opted out. - A guide explaining the new service
The device is a similar size to the diabetes glucose testing device currently used by the NHS.

What data is tracked?

The data shown below is what will be tracked of the individual and this will result in what is in their Prevention Pack.
Physical Data
- Body Fat
- Proteins
- Blood Glucose - Food Intake
- Vitamin Levels - Activity Levels
Mental Data
- Stress Levels
- Emotions / Mood - Sleep Patterns
The members weekly supplement changes depending on what their data was tracking in his body.
The user will be unaware of what they will be taking, they will not become unwell and will not know if they were about to become ill.
